Earlier in 2005 at the Victoria Masters Swim Meet, the same foursome barely missed a BC provincial record in the same event.  They swam 1:56.88 and missed both the BC record (1:56.13) and the Canadian record (1:55.77).  Coach Tony Zezza increased the intensity and distance at morning workouts to get the old guys, who tend to be distance swimmers, to sprint faster and concentrate on fast relay takeovers.  At the BC Provincials, Tony Zezza was the leadoff swimmer and he set a BC record for his 45-49 age group covering the first 50 metres in a time of 26.77.  With that start, the

team was well under national record pace.  Jim was the 3rd swimmer and swam a sub-29 second 50 Free.  With a fast turnover and well ahead of the field, John took over with the adrenaline flowing hard.  After the final touch, a look at the electronic timing board showed 1:54.78, and the rest of the Navy team were excited to have another national record in the books.  It is the 3rd Canadian Record for Navy Relay teams, and followed the day after John McManus improved his individual Canadian record in the 50-54 1500 Long Course Freestyle from 21:12 to 21:09.

The next swim meet for the Navy Masters Swim Team will be the Canadian Championships which will be held in Etobicoke over the long weekend in May.
