A/C LEONARD BIRCHALL MEMORIAL CAIRN
On
the initiative of S/L (ret’d) Gordon Ireland, the
youngest member of 413 Squadron based in Ceylon
during WW II, and a member of 888 (Komox) Wing of
the Air Force Association of Canada, a committee has
been struck to organize, design, and erect, a
Memorial Cairn to the memory of Air Commodore
Leonard Birchall, CM, OBE, DFC, OO, CD, “The Saviour
of Ceylon”. As you are all aware, Len was
Commandant, RMC and over the years he played a key
role in the lives of many cadets as well as
ex-cadets. He was a familiar face around the
College. He is a true Canadian hero. This is
another tribute to him and a way for a Squadron mate
to say thanks.
The
site for the cairn will be the new 413 (A/C Leonard
Birchall) Wing , Air Force Association of Canada,
Trenton Ontario. The planned unveiling and
dedication date will be 7 May 2006.
A
fund has been created cover the costs of this
