“Is our education adequate? The answer seems to be no, but the fact remains that many of the students graduate with top honours and become extremely good businessmen and engineers. The problem remaining is what to do with the reminder who find that the combination of poor motivation, poor teaching, and overcrowded schools is just a little too large for them to handle.” Excerpt from the 1959 RMC College Review article, Education (p131 & p132) 4840 P.J. We get e-mails . . . Dear Bill & Rolande: I am 13108 Stan Grabstas and I recently retired from the CF after 28+ years of service on 08 Sep 2005. On 10 Sep 2005 I started a new post with the United Nations in Afghanistan as the Chief Transport Officer for UNAMA responsible for approx 250 personnel throughout the country. On 12 Oct, I was seconded to UNMOGIP in Islamabad to assist in the earthquake relief operations. The death toll and destruction reminds me of my time in Rwanda shortly after the massacres. I have met a few of my fellow RMC mates in Afghanistan and if there are any in Pakistan I would like to hear from them at Grabstas@un.org.
Yesterday's copy (18 Oct) of Toro magazine, which came with the Globe and Mail, has an article on CF-18 Hornet pilots, and features Capt. Paul Umrysh, who graduated from RMC, Mech Eng, in 1995. I tried the online version, and the article is called COMBAT by Mark Shatzker under the general heading "Columns and Departments". Unfortunately it seems that this article isn't available online since it's title isn't printed in red. Is it possible they would send it to you? The article itself is quite good, features a photo of Paul Umrysh. I plan to show it to my students, some of whom are pilots, but if you wish I will send it over to you in a week or so. I continue to enjoy your E-Veritas; well done to you and Rolande! 3342 Craig Moffatt Ed note: We did contact Toro magazine and requested a copy of the article Online. No response to date. Craig, please send the article at your convenience. I had only a moment to speak to you, Bill but more time with you, Steve. In the College "List of Wants & Needs" I note, in your words, Steve, that the Museum Project is one which the Old Brigade should back. At the O.B. Dinner, having presented the check from the class, I did not ask the O.B. members present to get on board this project--time was a factor--as you probably know there were many delays at the dinner and I did not wish to prolong the evening any further. However I expect, Bill, that in your next Veritas issue you will be listing and commenting on the many gifts presented by various classes to the College at the recent reunion. Assuming that this is so, could you mention that the Museum Project is now approximately 50% funded and top-up donations from members of the Old Brigade would be appreciated. I will be advising my class in my next newsletter to direct, to the Museum, their future donations until such time as the project is fully funded. Thanks for your assistance, 3384 Charlie Kingston |

The eVERITAS electronic Newsletter reaches over 5,000 readers . It is a service provided by the RMC Club for Members in good standing with current addresses in the data base. It is designed to provide timely information on current events at RMC and to keep Members "connected". Occasionally, it will be distributed to non-members to entice them to join or renew their membership. Membership information is available at www.rmcclub.ca Newsworthy articles from national or local papers that may not have been available to the majority of our readers may be reproduced in e-VERITAS. We will also publish articles in either official language as submitted by Cadets and Staff, on "current life" at RMC. Other short “human interest stories" about Cadets, Ex-Cadets, Alumni and current and former Staff at the College will appear from time-to-time. Readers of e-VERITAS are encouraged to submit articles in either official language to william.oliver@rmc.ca. In particular, up-to-date “Where are they now?” articles on Ex-Cadets, Alumni and current and former Staff would be most welcome.
eVERITAS

highly popular magazine of the RMC Club printed and distributed three
times a year to Members by mail.
