13666 Colonel
Steve Noonan
with 12984 classmate Lt. Colonel Steve Laplante,
from the RMC Class of 1982, both currently serving
in Afghanistan.
I
played four times in the RMC / West Point series
from 1979-82. We were 2-2. Our team got hammered
both times we played at West Point. We beat them
both times in Kingston. John Forrington always
played well against Army and I think he had a couple
of hat tricks, one in a 12-4 losing effort. At
least he came to play.
My highlight was scoring the winning goal with about
five minutes left in a 4-3 victory where our line of
BJ Lamb, John Forrington and I accounted for all the
Redmen scoring. Our other forwards and defencemen
were great by taking care of things in our end of
the rink. Andy Scott was brilliant in goal. One of
those moments you can savour for a lifetime.
I, also think it allowed me to escape fourth year
without any supplemental exams (Doc Kirk being the
coach). Anyways, a great rivalry between two teams
whose main attributes were fitness and toughness.
Always felt sore after those games for some reason.

Varsity Hockey Sept 83- Mar 87
Years played against West Point 84, 85, and 87 –

Sorry no photo. I can however tell you that I am
going bald from the back. Currently working and
living in Peru in the mining industry with Compania
Minera Antamina S.A. with my Family. We will be
returning to Canada in July 06.
My memories are winning in 84 on home ice 8-5 and
rookies scored 7 of the eight goals. I hope my
facts are correct.
I will also never forget 1987. West Point had won
the last two years ‘85 and ‘86. They had just moved
up to Division I Hockey in the NCAA and it was our
first meeting in their new arena. We won 4-3 (a big
upset) and the ensuing party on the West Point
campus after the game was enjoyed by the entire team
and bus load of parents and fans that joined us that
year at West Point.
